Xena: Warrior Princess: And the Original Olympics

Xena is in great form and good humor with this mini-series in which she attends the original Olympics. Xena’s involvement began when she and Gabrielle stopped a couple of ruffians from trying to steal a kid’s Samson®-endorsed sandal. Just as it is today, it seemed that the shoe company was using big-name athletes to push their overpriced sports equipment, while simultaneously producing the shoes under horrible working conditions. Xena and Gabrielle tried unsuccessfully to convince the egomaniacal Samson to abandon his shoe endorsement. When that failed, they decided to take away the power of his endorsement by backing Arthur Pendragon in his quest to beat out Samson at the original Olympics.

Of course, women weren’t allowed to compete in the Olympics back then, so Gabrielle organizes a women’s version with her Amazon subjects, in order to embarrass the men into competing one-to-one. All in all, it’s classic Xena, combining mythology, adventure, and lots of fun.
