Snoid Comics

Robert Crumb strikes again with this Adults Only comic dedicated to one of his most popular characters, Snoid. Brimming with hostility and hatred toward his fellow man, Snoid unleashes his unique brand of comedy on the stereotypical woman—the female who is inexplicably attracted to the man who treats her with the utmost disrespect.

Yet, the artist’s attention to illustrative detail coupled with his thought-provoking social commentary manages to find its way onto pages in between. Using 12 panels and no captions/dialogue, “A Short History of America” manages to tell a century’s old tale of destruction and pollution thanks to uncontrolled urbanization. “Those Dharma Bhums” captures the plight of a modern day bohemian—one struggling to find answers, while never losing sight of the beautiful love by his side. Perhaps this Crumb isn’t as perverse as some would like to think.
