Slayers is one of manga’s most successful fantasy comedies. Its huge following is largely due to the appeal of its protagonist, the lovable Lina Inverse, and the comical situations she finds herself in. The humor is in your face and pokes fun at genre clichés. In City of Lost Souls, she is hired to locate and nab a thief, and ends up being reunited with someone from her past. Owing a debt to the work of Rumiko Takahashi, whose Ranma 1/2 combined the quick-paced physical comedy and goofy characters that are also found in Slayers, a series that achieved popularity in the U.S. with its animated version.
