Terror Illustrated

™ and © William M. Gaines, Agent

In an attempt to follow the success of Mad in making the transition from comic book to pictorial magazine (and avoiding the restrictions of the Comics Code), E.C. tried four magazines in its “Picto-Fiction” line, on some covers labeled “a new form of adult entertainment.” Each had panels in which an illustration was accompanied by typeset captions. They were: Confessions Illustrated, Crime Illustrated, Shock Illustrated—and Terror Illustrated. All but one lasted only two issues.

Artists for the horror stories included Reed Crandall and Graham Ingels.
