After two years of nonstop work, Julian Bashir, chief medical officer on Deep Space Nine has been ordered to take vacation. His chosen destination: the rather pleasant Levinius V. No sooner did he arrive and attempt to buy a beautiful local a drink, than he was hip deep in trouble.

The woman Bashir had chosen as a drinking partner, as it turns out, was a Maquis rebel. Worse yet, this particular group of rebels had just lost their doctor. Bashir was accordingly recruited to their cause at phaser-point.

The Maquis were soon to launch a raid on a secret Cardassian prison camp. Bashir was obviously concerned that he had become a part of this adventure, until he learned that in all probability the crew of the Starfleet ship Voyager were among the prisoners. Bashir then joined the call to arms, beginning a vacation considerably less restful than the one he had planned only days before.
