Just Married

    (Charlton, 1958-1976)
™ and ©1969 Charlton Press, Inc.

Just Married, one of Charlton’s numerous love comics, offered up stories of romance, betrayal, jealousy, heartbreak, and heartwarming sentiment in a glossy, standardized, and highly sanitized style. While the social upheavals of the 1960s proved a fertile source of creative ideas for many types of comics, the genre of love and romance comics remained as formulaic and uninspired as ever, dressing up the conventional morality of the ’50s in the new flashy fashions and jet-set backdrops of the ’60s. Charlton, never a trailblazing publisher under the best of circumstances, plumbed the heights and depths of mediocrity with titles like Just Married.
