normalman Twentieth Anniversary Special
(Image, 2004)
™ and © 2004 Jim Valentino
Have twenty years really passed since Cerebus #56, the first appearance of Normalman? Yes they have, and creator Jim Valentino celebrates with a new one-shot devoted to his signature character. As a baby, Normalman was rocketed to the planet Levram, where everyone has superpowers except him! His best friend is Captain Everything, Levram’s most powerful being. His enemies include Nasty Girl, the Ultra-Conservative, and Rotten Kid. To celebrate his 20th anniversary, Normie and Captain Everything visit a comic book convention. Normie cannot decide which is worse, the egos of the creators or the body odor of the fans. As usual, Valentino uses his creation to skewer the quirks of comic book culture, both subtly and overtly.
Also included in this issue is a comprehensive checklist of every Normalman appearance to date, as well as a reprint of “Normalman Goes Hollywood,” from Epic Lite #1.
