It’s not out of line to call the cartoon series this comic book is based on “silly,” so you’d think that taking an overly serious approach to such a fragile concept as a giant transforming lion robot would lead to its speedy collapse. But, obviously, Voltron has a lot of good will banked with its fans, who should eat this one up.

A great deal of effort has been made to turn archetypal heroes into people, without getting too grim and gritty with the characterization, and the art is simple and effective, working in concept with an effective color scheme that goes for an anime cel look. And, unlike a lot of other zero issues, there’s a nice chunk of story here for the admission price, not to mention plenty of pinups and text pages on the cast. Definitely not for everyone but, for non-fans, decidedly nontoxic.
