All-Star Western (1st Series)

Readers of DC’s premier super-team comic All Star Comics must have been surprised when, in April of 1951, the Justice Society of America was unceremoniously ousted by a lineup of cowboys and outlaws, and the title of the book changed to All-Star Western. Though it must have taken some getting used to, All-Star Western featured some of the best-told western tales in any comic series, highlighted by the lead feature, Johnny Thunder, drawn with the stark and unforgiving clarity of a John Ford classic by master illustrator Gil Kane. All-Star Western also featured the early work of many DC Silver Age mainstays, including Gil Kane and Carmine Infantino. All-Star Western folded quietly in the early 1960s to make way for DC’s newly-popular super-hero comics.
