The year 1995 saw the return of James Bond to the big screen, with newcomer Pierce Brosnan in the title role. In one of the better Bond films in years, Britain’s top secret agent takes on a rogue general from the former Soviet republic, as well as a shadowy figure from his own past known as Janus. Unless Bond can stop them, they intend to use a pirated satellite weapon, known as Goldeneye, to unleash fiery destruction on all of London.

By the time the movie was shot, Brosnan had matured from his pretty-boy image on TV’s “Remington Steele” and projected the perfect mix of sexiness and controlled violence that was the Bond trademark. This installment was notable not only for its incredible action sequences, but also for how much the world of Bond had changed since the 1960s. For one, Bond’s controller (“M”) was now a woman, and Bond’s gung-ho tactics were under scrutiny. In the end, all agree that when the world needs saving, Bond is the man for the job.
