Dinosaurs for Hire (Eternity)

    (Eternity, 1988-1989)
™ and ©1988 Tony Mason and Bryon Carson

Prevented from running a strip called Elvis for Hire, featuring clones of Elvis working for the FBI, Tom Mason switched the central characters to dinosaurs, and publication ensued just in time to catch the crest of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles craze. This is one of the better cash-ins, with a strong sense of irony and more than a sly poke at the comics industry. Archie (tyrannosaurus), Lorenzo (triceratops), Reese (stegosaurus) and Cyrano (pterodactyl) are U.S. government agents loaded with guns and gags and out to fight criminals. The original black-and-white series is a little shaky in places, relying on too many knock-back jokes from TMNT and weak art, but the run really kicks in with the second series.
