The Curio Shoppe
(Phoenix, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Phoenix Press
“The Curio Shoppe” is an anthology title that was published by Phoenix Press in 1995. The series contained a collection of odd, surrealistic stories, not unlike an actual curio shoppe which would have odd trinkets for sale.
None of the stories have very much in common. One might find anything from space travel to super-heroes in The Curio Shoppe. The first issue begins with John MacLeod’s “Serendipity,” a story that mixes voodoo and space travel. In it, the characters use a voodoo replica of a space ship, to travel through space without an engine. In another story, “Microcosm,” Rebecca Dart gives her version of the fairy tale novel, “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nymph.” Overall, The Curio Shoppe is a nicely odd, and always interesting book.
