This four–part series written by Chilean expatriate and surrealist filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky opens with a crucifixion pageant. Wretched freak Juan Solo is presented for holy retribution and proceeds to disgorge the disturbing details of his depraved life beginning from the time he was found in the town dump by a transvestite dwarf, through his violent young adulthood spent raping women and butchering enemies. Solo’s recruitment by a political machine boss sets in motion the events that lead to his downfall. Illustrated by Georges Bess, this South American gangster tale features Jodorowsky’s signature blend of surrealist narrative, absurdist violence and idiosyncratic mysticism. Bess and Jodorowsky also worked together on The White Lama.
