H.G. Wells’ classic invasion tale The War of the Worlds has probably received more comic book adaptations than any other work of literature. And why not? It’s got excitement, suspense, stuff blowing up, space ships, aliens, and a life-and-death struggle for the future of humanity—all the makings of great comics entertainment. Caliber’s version, written by Randy Zimmerman and drawn by Horus, updates the tale to the mid-90s (and, for the record, arrived on the scene before the similar film, ID4: Independence Day) but includes all the plot twists of the original. Gene Gonzalez contributes classy painted covers to the well-produced black-and-white package.
