Dragon’s Star

    (Matrix, 1986-1987)
™ and ©1987 Mary Ann Bramstrup and Ian Carr

A dragon who pilots a sporty starship…a little girl with a passion for adventure…

Now add to this mix espionage, mystery and a slew of humanoid-looking aliens, anthropomorphic-looking aliens, alien-looking aliens…what do you get? Dragon’s Star-a decent offering from the independent black and white comics glut of the 1980s.

Marrik (a dragon and the central character of this title) is the Empire’s most experienced and most celebrated deep space scout-as well as the fleet admiral’s worst nightmare. Unable to tolerate bureaucratic red tape or political agendas for too long (and that’s just typical of your average dragon) Marrik winds up getting into a lot of trouble after starting a barroom brawl and getting his newly-appointed commanding officer beat up in it. By the end of the first issue, Marrik has stolen his own starship and has become a fugitive on the run.
