Barefootz The Comix Book Stories (Howard Cruse’s…)

(From The Slings & Arrows Comic Guide)

Barefootz is an eternal optimist living in the strange and sinful city. His closest friends are the stressed-out artist Headrack and the voracious, man-hungry Dolly, both engaging and well-developed characters. The stars of the strip, though, are the myriad cockroaches who run free through his apartment, cultivated by him as friends, but usually obsessed by their own affairs, and Glory, the thing under the bed who “makes frogs” at people she doesn’t like. The cutesy style leads a lot of people to underestimate Barefootz. It’s a witty, understated strip with great charm and imagination. The Renegade one-shot reprints the previously uncollected “Barefootz” strips from the 1970s Comix Book. ~HS
