Owners of ComicBase can feel pretty good about the completeness of the database when it contains titles like Mr. Risk, an almost unthinkably obscure 1950 two-shot from Ace Magazines. Only two issues saw print: #7 (#1) and #2. Hard to imagine why it didn’t catch on—Mr. Risk is “a man of enormous talents, his wealth surpassed only by his courage…He donates all his fees to worthy, recognized [!] charities. For sheer toughness and brilliance of mind, there is none to compare with the incomparable Mr. Risk!” With unsigned artwork to match the caliber of writing, Mr. Risk seemed sure to go on to a third, or even a fourth issue—but it was not to be. Readers had to be content with the two hard-hitting exploits of Mr. Risk and his backups in crimefighting: Kirk Mason the Tough Dick, and “Poke” Bancroft, Special Investigator for the District Attorney.
