X-Men: Evolution

An adaptation of the hit Warner Brothers animated series, which itself is based on the original Marvel comics, “X-Men: Evolution” is a nearly straightforward interpretation of the world’s most popular mutants. Mutants are nothing more than humans with extraordinary powers—born with an “X” gene, they stand out from normal homo sapiens. They are homo superior. Keeping the classic ideological conflict between Professor Xavier and Magneto at its core, the comic adaptation of the cartoon delivers for both longtime fans and new readers. The major difference here is that the classic X-Men characters such as Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops and Nightcrawler have been reverted to their high school and college years, allowing the series to focus on the everyday struggles facing both mutants and teenagers. Less continuity-laden than the comics it is originally based on, “Evolution” focuses on more accessible stories with a trendy edge and lots of action.
