BAMF: A Dave Cockrum Treasury
(Äardwolf, 2003)
™ and © Äardwolf Publishing
It’s not that big. It’s not squarebound or slipcased. There’s no color. But it is chock-full of beautiful Cockrum art. There’s plenty of X-Men material, as well as a few Legion pieces. There’s Cockrum’s take on a famous Yvonne Craig Batgirl pose. The Creature from the Black Lagoon surfaces. There’s an unused Blackhawk cover and “Godzilla, Master of Kung Fu.” There are a few other surprises lurking within. (There’s some nudity, too, so be advised.) Arguably, the package is well worth 20 bucks right there. But it’s also signed by Cockrum and limited to 400 copies. When you consider how many comics have special editions “limited” to 10,000 or 25,000 and charge 20 or 30 bucks just for a variant cover, this is a real bargain. The cost of the whole package is what some art collections charge extra just for the signed edition. For the Cockrum fan, it’s indispensable. For others, it’s still a great, cost–effective collection.
Act quickly; there aren’t that many to be had.
— Jack Abramowitz
