This two issue mini-series by artist/writer Ted McKeever features the bizarre adventures of two misfit twin sisters who turn out to be homicidal robots. McKeever’s surreal, expressionist art style and deeply nihilistic plot give Junk Culture the immediate look and feel of a serious and disturbing work, but there seems to be little underneath the surface of violence, ugliness and cynicism. Vertigo readers have experience in separating the ambitious from the pretentious. And unfortunately, Junk Culture is more of the latter.
