Although much more technologically advanced than Earth cultures, Kryptonian society was emotionally stifled. Superman, himself, was born in a birthing machine, and denied the physical contact with his parents that we take for granted. So how did such a being learn to temper his power with love and compassion?

Jonathan and Martha Kent, Superman’s adoptive parents, welcomed the alien child into their home and into their hearts, thus helping to shape the youth who would become a legend. But who were these people before the alien baby came into their lives, and what events shaped them into such wonderful role models? For the first time, the history of the Kent family is told, and we are shown that the Kents have a habit of producing heroes. Appropriately, the 12-part saga begins with Jonathan’s ancestor Silas, the first member of the family to settle in Superman’s childhood home of Smallville.
