X-Men in the Savage Land

    (Marvel, 1989)
™ and ©1989 Marvel Characters, Inc.

This action-packed if somewhat uneven tale sets Angel of the X-Men on a journey to the prehistoric Savage Land to find Karl Lykos. Lykos is a man who in reality is Sauron, the pteradon-like creature who once enslaved Angel (it happened in X-Men (1st series) #61). Aided alternately by Spider-Man, Ka-Zar and teammates Wolverine, Storm, Colossus and Nightcrawler, Angel’s quest finds both Lykos and a plot by the evil priestess Zaladane to take over first the Savage Land, and then the world.

Since its first appearance in X-Men (1st series) #10, there have been better told tales of the X-Men in the Savage Land. But this trade edition, which collects the first four issues of Marvel Fanfare, does feature some fantastic art from Michael Golden (Micronauts, The ‘Nam) and Paul Smith (Leave It to Chance, The Golden Age).
