Valor is Lar Gand, a teenager from the planet Daxam who became a super-hero on Earth in the twentieth century. He has powers that rival Superman, but is still struggling with the problems and inexperience of youth.

As a character, Valor was born of, lived by, and—who knows, may even die in—one crossover series or another. He first appeared as part of the Invasion! series and was joined by the Legion of Super-Heroes who had traveled back almost 1,000 years into their past to recruit him. He then made appearances in such titles as L.E.G.I.O.N., Justice League Quarterly, and the Panic in the Sky storyline that ran through the various Superman titles. Later he became a key figure in the DC’s 1992 crossover, Eclipso: The Darkness Within. That last crossover spawned both this title and the Eclipso solo series. Valor then went on to play a major role in Zero Hour, the universe-shattering follow-up to Crisis on Infinite Earths.
