Domu: A Child’s Dream
(Dark Horse, 1995-1996)
©1995 by Katsuhiro Otomo. English translation and lettering ©1995 Studio Proteus and Dark Horse Comics, Inc.
Something is preying on the residents of the Tsutsumi Public Housing Complex. In the past three years, two dozen residents have met with mysterious ends: suicides, possible murders, or deaths that were simply unexplained. Among the most recent was a man who calmly walked up to the roof and passed through a door whose lock was rusted shut, so he could jump to his death. Next was a beat cop who apparently took just three minutes to desert his partner on the ground floor, pass through the same locked roof door, and wind up in a mess down on the pavement.
Behind all these deaths is a deranged old man with psychic abilities who uses the residents of the complex like puppets. For years he has used his mind to drive residents to suicide. Now, however, there is another who can hear his mental commands and stand against them: a little girl with powers of her own. The two are destined for battle in this three-issue mini-series by Akira’s Katsuhiro Otomo.
