It is also about the foibles of human curiosity and our stubborn, turn-a-blind-eye focus on what we want to do.

Not only is there romance in the Devonian, there is also danger from giant sharks, discovery of colonies of seaborne life, and the possible contamination of a previously unheard-of species. Di Filippo even adds an ancient crash site, but you should read the book before anyone tells you more.
