In this grim future, it is a biological plague run amok, not a war, that has taken its toll on the world, wiping out most of humanity and mutating many of the rest. On the barren surface, pre-technology conditions and savagery exist; but underground, genetic engineers who have survived work feverishly to breed a new mankind, part organic and part steel, that can carry humanity forward. Achieving it with their powerful Neomen, they are faced with new problems. For one thing, not all their creations are as pure of heart as they’d like. Worse still, their entrance into the surface world allows the mutants access to their underground hideout.
