Wolverine: Snikt!
(Marvel, 2003)
™ and © Marvel Characters, Inc.
The primary reason to shell out three bucks on Wolverine: Snikt! is the creepy, yet gorgeous, art, which fits the mood and tone of the story (what little there is) perfectly. Mainstream X-Men fans may thumb their noses at Wolverine’s unconventional, Edward Scissorhands-meets-Sid Vicious appearance, but those who normally shun X-Men (and super-heroes in general) may want to give this issue a look-see.
The bare-bones plot involves a pale wisp of a girl appearing before Logan and whisking him to some barren, yet highly dangerous, wasteland of a place that is under attack by creatures composed of both mechanical and organic parts. Wolverine has obviously met his match, and the issue raises several questions while answering few of them. Who is this girl? How (and where) did she transport Logan? Who are these people and why are they being attacked? What (or who) are these creatures?
With such a skeletal plot and so little dialogue, many readers will feel gypped, since it takes but a handful of minutes to read the issue, even if the reader carefully peruses the pages. Still, there’s no denying the power of the art.
