Eternity Smith (Vol. 1)

    (Renegade, 1986-1987)
™ and ©1987 Dennis Mallonee and Rick Hoberg

Eternity Smith and his super-powered companions match wits with evil scientists who use supercomputer technology in an attempt to conquer the world. Although Eternity Smith came out in the 1980s, the simplicity of both the story and the artwork, by Dennis Mallonee and Rick Hoberg, respectively, hark back to the slam-bang action strips of the Golden Age. It’s unclear whether this retro tendency is intentional, so it’s hard to know whether Eternity Smith is meant as an entertaining homage to an older style or a hopelessly out-of-date entry from a mid-1980s independent publisher hoping to compete with the big super-hero titles.
