Duckman (Topps)
(Topps, 1994-1995)
™ and ©1994 Paramount Pictures
In 1990, when the original Duckman comic was published by Dark Horse, only a select few were in on the joke. That changed a few years later when Everett Peck’s feathered private dick/family man made it big as an animated series on the USA cable network. This new, 1994 series from Topps marked Duckman’s triumphant return to the medium that had spawned him.
Duckman (brought to life on TV by the voice of Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander) is a wise-cracking, cynical loudmouth who looks good only as compared to his mutant family. The series is unique in that it easily jumps from lowbrow humor to off-the-wall references to the Beatles or William S. Burroughs. All of this is delivered at a frenetic pace which leaves you laughing, while at the same time wanting to reread the issue to catch the parts you missed the first time around.
