The Light Brigade is a war story with all the bizarre and horrific edges you’d expect of DC’s Vertigo imprint, which surprisingly, it doesn’t belong to. Set during WWII, the tale centers on an American soldier named Chris Stavros who has just discovered that his stateside wife has died from an accident. Stavros is longing to return home and take care of his son, but instead he is stuck in the icy gloom of the Belgian Woods battling German soldiers with his fellow troops. But the war takes on an unusual, otherworldly turn when Stavros and his men find the bodies of two Archangels fighting over the stolen Sword of God. The Archangel Sauriel offers Stavros an opportunity to be reunited with his wife and son if he retrieves the Sword. Thus the soldiers form The Light Brigade, transcending their original mission of stopping Nazis into a holy quest.
