Deathrow
(Blue Comet, 1993)
™ and ©1993 Craig Stormon
Recent years have seen an explosion in the number of “heroes” whose names begin with “Death,” “Dead,” or “Blood”: Death’s Head II, Deathblow, Deadpool, Bloodshot, Bloodfire…the list goes on and on ad nauseum. Independent publisher Blue Comet Press had a great chance to parody this trend with Deathrow, but instead chose to play it seriously.
As a result, Deathrow is pretty much what you’d expect: lots of big guns, “bitchin’” cyborg killing machines, and nonstop, shameless violence. Deathrow is a British cyborg assassin who had built a big reputation for himself overseas. L.A. drug lords had recently brought him over to the states to help them secure their territory, and Deathrow had done a shockingly effective job of wiping out the competition. But the other drug dealers weren’t about to sit still and be wiped out. Instead, they constructed their own cyborg, named X-187 to take on Deathrow.
