Man-Thing (3rd Series)

Once again, Marvel tried to establish a line of books that would explore the darker corners of their universe. In the early 1990s, it was the Midnight Sons titles; in the late 1990s, it was the Strange Tales titles, and Man-Thing (3rd Series) was one of them. Nicely written by J.M. DeMatteis (Moonshadow, Justice League) and beautifully illustrated by Liam Sharp (The Incredible Hulk). This title finds the swamp creature who was a man named Ted Sallis drawn from place to place by the power of human emotion—like “a tree responds to the wind“—and back into the life of his wife Ellen. Sadly, this excellent revival lasted only eight issues, but did continue into Strange Tales (4th Series).
