Crypt of Shadows

™ and ©1973 Marvel Entertainment Group

Crypt of Shadows was one of the many horror titles Marvel published in the early 1970s. The Comics Code had relaxed its earlier prohibitions against depicting monsters and ghouls, giving Marvel a chance to reprint ream of material which had lain fallow for years.

The series started out on a strong note, reprinting the classic “Midnight on Black Mountain” from Adventures into Terror #7. Unfortunately, the stories that followed were not compelling enough to win the necessary readers away from DC. The 1970s were tough times in the horror comic business, and Crypt of Shadows fell victim to the inevitable shake-out.
