JLA: Shogun of Steel

    (DC, 2002)
™ and ©2002 DC Comics

Centuries ago in feudal Japan rival warlords united to oppose Lord Zunou, a ruthless conqueror whose robotic samurai were a greater threat than petty ancestral differences. The alliance proved futile and Zunou became known as the Shogun of Steel, claiming all of Japan for his own. His rule was not without its opponents, but they were severely out-classed until the appearance of Hoshi, a powerful yet gentle fisherman possessing amazing powers.

This Elseworld’s offering casts members of the Justice League in ancient Japan as dedicated warriors opposing a villain from beyond the stars. The origin of the Lord Zunou and the prominence of the Superman surrogate make this predominately a Superman story though substitutes for The Flash, Hawkman, Green Arrow and Batman (albeit with a change of gender) are present.
