Bizarre Heroes (Don Simpson’s…)

    (Fiasco, 1994-1996)
™ and ©1994 Don Simpson

Before he was one of the early members of Image Comics, Don Simpson’s main claim to fame was his viciously funny Megaton Man, a canny send-up of some of the more ridiculous amenities that super-hero comics exhibit. Megaton Man returns again in this series which picks up from Bizarre Heroes, which Simpson calls his “pilot episode.”

With only slight exaggeration, the peculiarities of characters as the Phantom Jungle Girl or the Meddler, which may seem to be standard super-hero fare in any other title, are apparent when presented with Simpson’s wry dialogue and absurd situations. It is Simpson’s ability to shine a harsh light of reality on super-hero conventions that make his characters bizarre.
