Some Trouble of a SeRRious Nature

    (Crusade, 2001)
™ and ©2001 William Elliott Tucci and Richard W. Demott

In the waning days of World War II a Navy pilot was en route to San Diego flying the distinctive bent-wing Corsair when he discovered the war was won. Landing immediately to celebrate, he found himself in Hockeyjock, Arkansas where he ran afoul of a local girl and her father. The pilot went to a hospital and apparently had more pressing concerns than the airplane. The plane was claimed by Caleb Flerk, who despite a completely lack of training, envisioned cruising over the countryside in his new prize. Things did not pan out like Caleb hoped and wrote a letter of complaint to the manufacturer, Chance Vought Aircraft.

This book is an admitted change of pace for Billy Tucci, the creator of Shi. It is the story of an elaborate practical joke that was played on the aircraft manufacturer. An actual Navy pilot composed the bogus letter, complete with misspellings and dreadful grammar, concerning an abandoned Corsair. Chance Vought spent the better part of ten years trying to find this errant aircraft and the story has become a real urban legend.

Tucci plans to make an independent film of this story and this book contains pictures of the cast and storyboards of the proposed movie.
