Thrilling Science Fiction
(Paragon, 1998)
™ and ©1998 Paragon Publications
Thrilling Science Fiction resurrects forgotten, not-quite-classics of Golden Age science fiction. The reprints included here range from famous series such as Planet Comics to obscure sci-fi strips that ran in Buster Brown Comics, a shoe-store giveaway. Although there are exceptions, the art on these strips tends to be excellent, with contributions by Reed Crandall, Wally Wood, George Evans, Bernie Krigstein, and other greats.
The stories, on the other hand, are another matter altogether. Expect no great breakthroughs in the field of fiction. The stories are as pulpy as they come: full of gallant spacemen, scantily clad women, and plenty of BEMs (Bug Eyed Monsters). Fun stuff, to be sure, but stick to E.C. titles like Weird Science if you’re looking for more than space opera.
