Howard Chaykin jumped to prominence with American Flagg, his creator-owned series from First Comics. Other credits include remakes of Batman and The Shadow, as well as independent series such as Midnight Men. In 1994, Malibu Comics published Chaykin’s newest creator-owned series, Power & Glory, under its Bravura imprint.
Power & Glory is about a dirty government agency that experiments with humans in order to find a hero that is, “Superman with an American flag on his chest, a guy who makes Captain America look like a wimp.” The problem is that the man they choose looks good as a super-hero but can’t fight his way out of a paper bag. The person who trains the subject actually ends up doing the dirty work.
