The Tarzan Family

By the early 1970s, DC had acquired the rights to Edgar Rice Burroughs’ many adventure heroes. They included the legendary Tarzan (and his son Korak); John Carter, Warlord of Mars; and the lesser-known Carson of Venus. After spinning several of them into successful titles in their own right, DC decided in 1975 to change their Korak, Son of Tarzan title into “The Tarzan Family.” This move reunited the various Edgar Rice Burroughs’ characters in the same way that Superman Family brought together the various Superman-related characters.

Most likely the creation of Tarzan Family was also meant as a way of bolstering the slowing sales of the less popular Tarzan-related titles. If so, the move failed. The heyday of the jungle story had passed, and DC’s entire jungle-action line was soon to meet its demise.
