JLA: The Nail

™ and ©1998 DC Comics, Inc.

“For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe, the horse was lost. For want of a horse, the knight was lost. For want of a knight, the battle was lost. So it was a kingdom was lost…all for the want of a nail.”

In this Elseworlds saga, the kingdom was indeed lost because of a nail. The nail in question punctured the tire of Jonathan and Martha Kent, preventing them from taking that Sunday drive where they otherwise would have found young Kal El as he crashed on Earth as a baby. In our reality, the Kents took the baby in and raised him to become the hero known as Superman. In this other reality, however, young Kal fell into other hands.

So now, twenty-four years later, the city of Metropolis is under siege, thanks to the Draconian police policies of mayor Lex Luthor. What’s more, an anti-metahuman crusade is in full swing, forcing heroes like the JLA to run for cover.
