Nathaniel Dusk
(DC, 1984)
™ and ©1983 DC Comics, Inc.
Don McGregor worked with artist Gene Colan to create this 1984 mini-series for DC. Its star is Nathaniel Dusk, a rough-and-ready private detective in the mold of Sam Spade. Dusk plies his trade during the height of the Great Depression, chasing down philandering spouses and doing other sordid work in order to pay the bills. Despite this, he tries to keep himself above the slime he deals with. In fact, he has recently discovered a little light in his own life in the form of Joyce Gulino, a dark-haired beauty. She and Dusk have been an item for some two months, and though Dusk knows little about her, they’ve already become deeply involved.
All in all, Joyce makes Dusk’s life worth living. The problem is, someone out there is working awfully hard to make sure Dusk doesn’t go on living much longer…
