Peter Parker was on his way to meet a youth group that his friend Flash Thompson worked with, and tell them what it was like being a photographer. Parker was running later, so he decided to save some time by swinging across town as Spider-Man. Little did he know that in doing so, he would cross the sights of the Shadow Force.

The Shadow Force was a group of artificially-enhanced super-beings, created by a renegade general named Macauley Sharpe. Sharpe’s idea was create designer super-heroes, using fragmentary records from Captain America’s Super Soldier Serum, the cosmic ray incident that created the Fantastic Four, and the gamma bomb explosion explosion that formed the Incredible Hulk. Sharpe’s Shadow Force succeeded in capturing Spider-Man for use in his experiment, but X-Factor was called in by Flash to investigate and managed to find him. Only now, one of the Shadow Force has gone to kill Flash!
