The Fly (Impact)

    (Impact, 1991–1992)
© Archie Comic Publications, Inc.

Originally created in the 1940s by Simon and Kirby (the same folks who brought us Captain America and the Boy Commandos), the Fly has had an on-and-off comics run for almost half a century. It still remains one of the truly fun action comic figures.

Impact’s rendition is Jason Troy, a youngster with a bad habit of playing hand-held video games instead of paying attention in class. As a result, his substitute teacher gave him a special assignment—to create a new hero character. Jason took to the assignment, coming up with “the Flyster,” a man with the ability of flight. Pleased with his progress, the teacher gave him a present: a fly encased in an amulet of amber. Later, when a villain called Burn-Out set fire to a local mall, the amulet gave Jason the ability to turn into the character he had created. As the Fly, Jason battled against evil in all its forms—and of course the worst would come in the form of spider.
