Lost Squad
(Devil’s Due, 2005)
™ and ©2005 Chris Kirby & Alan Robinson
Good ol’ ballyhoo World War II action with a dose of magic and the supernatural to complement the entertaining over-the-top action—that’s the Lost Squad.
The Lost Squad is a small group of Allied soldiers who are good at what they do (or perhaps merely expendable); as a result, they get the bizarre assignments in the battle against the Third Reich’s military machine. The tongue-in-cheek humor and the more serious elements (two consistencies of war: tragedy and regret) help make the story a decent showing, making this book worth reading.
Writer Chris Kirby has constructed a story that, while not altogether original, certainly entertains and keeps a rapid pace, as a book like this should. The art by penciller Alan Robinson and inker Jaime Castro fits the genre beautifully.
Perhaps most importantly, the end of each issue makes the reader wonder what will come next: a yardstick measure of good books. Find Lost Squad at your nearby comics store and see if you don’t get caught up in the supernatural action.
