Silver Age Secret Files

    (DC, 2000)
™ and ©2000 DC Comics

Given that it spans several issues, DC’s Silver Age crossover event can be a bit difficult to follow. But this issue, one of DC’s excellent “Secret Files” series, gives some useful backstory to the event. It tells readers a bit more about the motivations and mindset of the intergalactic villain Agamemno, his scheme to bend the Justice League of America to his will, and his desire to rule the universe. Along the way, readers are treated to some Who’s-Who style write-ups of some of the greatest heroes of the Silver Age. Bonus stories include an unlikely team-up of the Creeper and Hawk and Dove, a Dial H for Hero piece and even an appearance by Super-Turtle (?!?). Rounding out the issue is a great “backstage” feature from DC editors, showing readers some of the covers from other titles in the crossover, as drawn by classic artists like Carmine Infantino (Flash), Nick Cardy (Teen Titans), Murphy Anderson (Hawkman, Superman) and the immortal Gil Kane (Green Lantern).
