Danger Unlimited

    (Dark Horse, 1994-1995)
Danger Unlimited™ and the Torch of Liberty™ and ©1994 John Byrne

John Byrne created Danger Unlimited as an action-oriented counterpart to his Next Men series. The story bridges two time periods: the late 1980s when Danger Unlimited, a group of super-heroes fought their last desperate battle against Umbra, and 2060, when their headquarters was released from stasis and the characters brought into the present day. In composition the team bear much resemblance to the Fantastic Four, but displays a complexity and sense of wonder that has been missing in more modern times from that series.

As a backup feature, this title featured the Torch of Liberty, a World War II super-hero who fought for the Allies. In addition to battling Nazis and liberating concentration camps, the Torch took on the Nazi’s own super-heroes, especially Golgotha, the Torch’s iron-fisted arch-nemesis. The Torch was created by John Byrne and featured artwork by Kieron Dwyer.
