Lois Lane

    (DC, 1986)
™ and ©1986 DC Comics, Inc.

In many ways, this is Lois Lane’s first solo title. Although she starred in the long-running Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane, her role in that series seemed to revolve around her romantic obsession with Superman. In contrast, this two-issue series relegates Clark Kent to a few panels in the background.

Lois was out on a date when she heard the call of police sirens. Sensing a story, she ended her romantic engagement for the evening and went to investigate. The scene she had chanced upon was enough to horrify even veteran cops, as police divers pulled the waterlogged body of a small child from the South River. Although a hardened reporter, Lois was so affected by the experience that she began a quest to bring the public’s attention to the problem of children being kidnapped and murdered. This series does the same, spending most of its time educating the reader about a tragedy that touches thousands of lives every year.
