Horror, The Illustrated Book of Fears
(Northstar, 1990)
™ and © respective creators
This black-and-white magazine harkens a bit back to the old horror anthology titles of the 1950s and has a few characteristics of the Warren magazines of the 1970s. There are tales of serial killers, monsters, ghosts, and witches—pretty much all the standard fare of the horror genre. Like the stories, the interior artwork ranges from quite good to terribly sketchy and unclear. The covers, on the other hand, are stunning, and well-known artists like James O’Barr (The Crow) and Dan Day (Master of Kung-Fu: Bleeding Black) show up here and there.
