Target Ultimate Spider-Man

    (Marvel, 2004)
™ and © Marvel Characters, Inc.

In an effort to attract newer readers, Marvel took some of their most popular characters and started over from scratch, at once simplifying years of convoluted continuity and modernizing the characters for the current generation.

The first hero to get the “Ultimate” treatment was, naturally, the Amazing Spider-Man, courtesy of the amazingly popular writer Brian Michael Bendis (Powers). Since the origin is essentially the same, with only minor tweaks and a fresh updated look and feel, even longtime fans should be happy. Peter Parker is still a wimpy but brilliant high school kid whose life is changed by a spider bite, but this time it’s an experimental drug, not radiation, that gives him his uncanny abilities.

This over–sized special edition, produced exclusively for sale at Target stores (again, to reach a larger potential audience) reprints the Ultimate Spider-Man series, collecting entire story arcs in each volume.
