Fury (2nd Series)

Some have argued that a classic, old-time Marvel Comics character has been betrayed by this ultra-violent, mature-themed series. Others contend that a grizzled war hero needs an adult-oriented book like this one to be at all realistic. In any case, S.H.I.E.L.D. commander Nick Fury runs up against bureaucracy, red tape, and a series of modern-day hindrances to the way of life he’s most accustomed—and then runs up against a madman from his past bent on starting World War III for no more reason than simple amusement. Backed by a team of green rookies, who have seen more action on TV than Fury used to see in the average week, as well as a S.H.I.E.L.D. whose strength is blunted by corporate leadership, an older Nick Fury wonders: Can he be as effective as the Fury of old?

Written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Darick Robertson, this series includes more than its share of the dark humor and twisted violence Ennis is best known for.
